        PIONEERING A NEW FUTURE 87
  VISION
• To be the leading centre to foster, nurture and ensure the delivery, sustenance and use of technology applications for public and social good.
• To reach and expand the benefits of technology among communities, institutions and governments for equitable and inclusive social and economic development of the North-east region.
MISSION
• To resolve the last-mile problem in the delivery, induction, management, use and extension of technology applications
• To infuse, build and sustain a culture of gainful applications of technology at ground level and to fill the void that persists, at present, in reaching people and end-users.
• The focus and emphasis of technology induction and extension is clearly
on applications that serve public good, create livelihoods and employment, particularly, among the poor and disadvantaged communities; promote equitable economic growth; improve productivity in all areas; promote efficient and effective use of local and natural resources; contribute to safety and a cleaner environment; and, are socially desirable.
• The centre has chosen to work in a collaborative, networked and partnership framework. The endeavour is to build and expand partnerships with people, communities, local bodies, NGOs, research and technology institutions, knowledge creators, professionals and experts, intermediate entities of all types working towards similar aims and, most importantly, with the various organs of the state governments.

for power generation and thermal applications, bamboo-based charcoal making to utilize waste
and meet rural fuel requirements, edible bamboo shoot processing for low-fat high-fibre dietary requirement, bamboo-pulp-based hygiene products for rural areas, development/customization of machinery according to available bamboo species, as well as development of fire retardant, earthquake resistant and easy to install pre-fabricated permanent bamboo-based structures for rural
and urban housing, schools, hospitals, and disaster mitigation for plain and high-altitude areas.
NECTAR-SUPPORTED TECHNOLOGIES
Agro and Food Processing: The centre has supported setting up of shoot, pineapple processing, king-chilli-pickle-making units. The support has also been provided to various organizations for expansion and setting up of beekeeping activities, spice processing facilities, setting up of honey- testing laboratory and fermented rice water drink facility and non-carcinogenic smokers for meat. In an attempt to create awareness of north-east based value-added products, namely, turmeric, black pepper, chilli, bay leaves and honey, NECTAR has created linkages between farmers and the market in metro cities. NECTAR has also introduced these products through renowned marketing portals.
Renewable Energy Source: The region has
vast renewable energy potential, NECTAR, in association with other institutes, intends to scout and demonstrate technologies based on renewable energy resources especially with sectors like solar, wind and biomass and hybrid processes.
THRUST AREAS IN BAMBOO APPLICATIONS
• Construction and structural applications – green
material approach.
• Composites and wood substitutes.
• Bamboo for energy: gasifiers based on bamboo
developed.
• Bamboo in industrial products and bamboo furniture.
