Diabetic Clarity
• Heart disease
• Kidney failure
• Amputations in the lower extremities (think toes, feet and
legs)
In just the U.S., diabetes is the sixth leading cause of death, and
that’s because most have developed heart disease. A person with
diabetes as the same risk of having a heart attack as a person who
has already had one.
This is why diabetics are advised to speak with their physicians and
follow their physician’s advice at all times. They must get regular
check-ups and have their cholesterol and blood pressured monitored
often.
Using tobacco also increases the risk of heart attacks in diabetics,
which is why diabetics are urged to quit smoking or doing chewing
tobacco.
How Does Diabetes Come About In The First Place?
Understand, there are five kinds of diabetes, but the basic premise of
the disease is the same. Whatever type of diabetes a person has, the
key reason for the development is that the body cannot produce or use
glucose effectively.
When this happens, it causes the body’s blood sugar levels to rise and
stay above the normal range.
There are three things you should understand:
• The body’s cells, which uses the glucose, need to absorb the
sugar in the blood so it can be turned into fuel.
• The insulin, produced by the ever-important pancreas organ,
will let the sugar get into the cells.
• The glucose that’s broken down from food, liver or muscles, is
known as glycogen.
