The Autumn Show runs has now ended,
and we are on the cusp of our winter
maintenance period.
As South Australia is known as the driest state
on the driest continent on earth it is certainly
living up to its reputation in that we have had
very minimal rain fall since October 2024. This I feel may change once we
start the trucks and head out to our Spring Show run probably.
The Autumn Show run is a run of smaller shows around the Barossa Valley
region of SA and used to be well supported by our members, but due to
recent upgrades of community sporting fields and the planting of extra trees
on the Showgrounds, Guild ground has been lost. As the Showgrounds are
local council owned, we have not been able to have any say in the matter,
with any correspondence from the Guild mostly ignored, and the changes
made anyway.
The mad March events such as Adelaide Fringe and V8 Supercars were
extremely well attended by patrons from all over Australia, and the SGSA
members had quite a few spin-off events around the state to attend. So
along with the autumn show run we have been able to keep plying our trade
successfully.
Through these pages I would like to offer condolences to the Lawrence family
on the loss of their family member Bob, who most showmen around Australia
would know as one of the longest trading operators at Royal Adelaide Show-
a feat that earned him Legend of the Show status.
He will be sorely missed among our ranks.
