Agricultural Shows Australia
Message from the chair
As I write this today, I am sadden to announce that the last of our Royal Shows, Perth, has been cancelled for 2020 due to the uncertainty surrounding COVID19 and mass gatherings. We continue to see shows unable to run due to COVID19 restrictions however there is a small number of WA shows which may
be able go ahead in 2020 which is pleasing.
The $36 million announcement on 25th June 2020 from The Federal Government to support agricultural show societies recover from the effects of COVID-19 was a welcomed relief. Further details surrounding the time frame for applications, eligible expenses and criteria are still being finalised by Minister Littleproud and should be available shortly.
Ekka 2020 Online presented by RACQ offered a 10-day program showcasing the Ekka’s farmers, competitions,
traditions, animals, food, entertainment and agricultural education in an exciting and interactive format.
More than 53,000 strawberry sundaes and 31,000 Dagwood Dogs were consumed at the Brisbane Showgrounds over the 10 days, along with 1,300 tasting plates of award- winning beef and lamb from the Ekka and Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show competitions.
The 2020 Royal Adelaide Show is also adapting amidst unprecedented times with the introduction of ‘The Show @ Home. The Show @ Home showcases various aspects of the traditional show including the entertainment, show- judging, animals, amusements, rides and more. From September 7-11, The Show @ Home will go live on the website with a jam-packed schedule.
ASA is also pleased to announce they will be teaming up with National
Farmers Federation for National Agriculture Day on 20th November 2020. We would like to encourage show societies across the country to get involved, by hosting a COVID-safe AgDay Long Table Lunch. See further details within the newsletter to register your interest.
Finally, we are delighted to share
with you ASA and Primary Industries Education Foundation Australia (PIEFA) have signed an MOU to work collaboratively to build opportunities that support food and fibre curriculum and agricultural careers in Australia.
