“The Committee tried a number of different initiatives before settling on projects, which truly delivered benefit to Queensland’s 127 show societies,” she said.
“Over the years a well-structured committee formed and opportunities opened up for members to gain experiences across a number of
roles such as President, Treasurer and secretary to learn best practice governance skills to take back to their own shows and sub-chambers.”
Inaugural Agricultural Shows of Australia Conference
In January 2020 the Next Gen Committee hosted the Agricultural Shows of Australia (ASA) Inaugural Conference on the Gold Coast, almost 200 years since the first Australian ag show.
A partnership between ASA and Queensland Ag Shows, the event was the first of its kind, bringing together more than 260 delegates from across Australia and New Zealand.
Featuring International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE) President and CEO, Marla Calico as the keynote speaker, the conference theme was “Stronger Together, Building Resilient, Adaptable Shows”.
Speakers presented on topics such as agricultural show management and governance, marketing, risk mitigation,
community engagement, innovation, financial management and mentoring.
Marla said ag shows across the world played an important role in advocating for the agricultural sector and educating the public about food and fibre production.
“It is this passionate belief in what we do, and why we do it that is driving the next generation of volunteers and leaders to take the agricultural show movement into the future, to bring together the calibre of speakers we have heard from at this conference and I have been
