The Spring Show runs, and capital season
is now behind us. Most Shows held up, as
our members reported good trading, as
the Shows were well attended by the local
show going folks.
Adelaide Royal started extremely slowly with inclement weather and was
a little concerning for the showmen who operated their attractions, but as
I am told it came home with a wet sail and trading was better than usual for
the last 4 days.
Mt Gambier Show was well attended by our eastern state brethren,
and we were all pleasantly surprised with the end result trading. I believe
the clash of Shows will not affect us for another couple of years, so that will
be a positive.
It is with sadness I report in this issue the passing of my own father Ron
Girdler in November, after health issues which he has had for a number of
years. I have included a separate article in this issue for any of his friends
who had the pleasure of doing business with him, as he was secretary of
the SGSA for 25 years, and handled all the bookings and business for Mt
Gambier Shows, and attended many interstate conferences. He also sat on
the now defunct Federal Council of Showmen of Australia.
In closing I take this opportunity to extend season greetings! Merry
Christmas, and happy New Year! And as always safe prosperous trading!
