A big hello to all showmen, show societies and
friends of our industry,
The SA show season has just kicked off and gladly the weather gods are being kind.
Trading has been reported as being on par with last year and we hope this trend continues as our country is experiencing high interest rates,
fuel costs and other household expenses making the entertainment dollar, our dollar the last dollar spent.
In July we held our Annual General Meeting which was well attended by
the members, and we had one successful applicant join our ranks namely Stephen Marr. Stephen was a member of our Guild when he was younger and joined the army. He’s done three tours of duty, serving our country and upon his honorable discharge he decided the showman life was once again calling, so congratulations Steve we look forward to working with you on the Showgrounds.
Phillip Hamilton, our secretary received a Life Membership, which is so well deserved after his 40 years of service. Congratulations Phillip! You have held many offices in the guild and greatly valued and appreciated.
Bianca Girdler was voted in as our assistant secretary to also support the organisation.
The gods in the office are back in control and seem to keep shifting the goal posts; so any hope of the industry in this state becoming more aligned with the rest of Australia’s interpretations of the regulations is once again a long way off. This is frustrating and only makes operating our equipment harder as the us against them mentality they have doesn’t help anyone.
Devices that have been plant registered for many years, accepted and stood the test of time in the field are now being scrutinised to the nth degree, and face the possibility of being de-registered for minor technicalities in documents.
In closing I wish everyone safe prosperous trading regards, Yours faithfully,
Daryl. C. Girdler President
