When will this situation end?
A big hello to all Showmen, Show Societies and
friends of our Industry
The pandemic continues into 2021 and show societies that are receiving grants from governments are continuing to cancel the shows and only means of earning a living for our members.
We have traded very successfully over the past few months and have at all times been very diligent in our Covid-19 procedures. I am not suggesting for one minute to hold Shows and be complacent, but enough is enough!
Covid-19 is now going to be with us for the foreseeable future and we must adapt to its demands. The showmen already have, and our industry is the most looked at. The first shut down and last to reopen when there are Covid-19 cases, even though we are an outdoor industry.
The summer carnivals were very well patronised by the public who were made to holiday in their own states. This was a windfall for the showmen trading at carnivals, so isn’t it about time show societies held their shows and brought some fun back into the regions in a COVIDSafe manner.
All the procedures have already been documented. We know how to do it and if we work together with the show societies we can once again get back to doing what we do best.
The other major problem we are facing is the situation with our insurance where some class 5 rides are not being offered insurance, so the operators of those devices are being hit with a double whammy; by the health crisis and the insurance crisis.
We have been in this situation before with insurance and it’s about time the federal government put a ministerial department or three onto it to find a solution, or the whole show industry may buckle under the pressure or we will all be working clown joints and fairy floss carts.
In closing I wish everybody safe prosperous trading when you can and start lobbying the show societies with ideas how we can hold shows again.
Regards,
Daryl. C. Girdler President
