Fighting Hunger & Feeding Hope

2017 was full of many challenges, achievements and progress.

Through the generosity of our supporters this past year, we upgraded our distribution, storage and
acquisition capacity so that we can increase access to healthy foods in the exact communities where
it’s needed most; and that strategy is working.

     • In 2017 we saw a small decline in child hunger (27.3%) - down from 28.9% in 2016.
     • We significantly increased the amount of fresh produce available to our neighbors, partners and
pantries.
     • We increased the quality and quantity of the Senior Brown Bag food items, while enrolling more
seniors and reducing the income limits for participation.
     • We are partnered with many local organizations to reduce food waste and increase
participation in Cal Fresh

Beyond working to end hunger each day, the Food Bank is dedicated to solving food insecurity by
integrating, facilitating and advocating for programs and services that address hunger’s underlying and
related issues.

Currently, we’re expanding our Senior Brown Bag Program and launching child back-pack pilot
programs.

We are also continuing to focus on implementation of our "Rethinking Hunger 2019" campaign that
focuses on making MCFB healthier, stronger and broader.

As we move forward, we are grounded in the fact that food, however humble, has the power to
transform lives. Having groceries in the refrigerator can provide a small measure of certainty when there
is none. Knowing where your next meal is coming from empowers families to think beyond today and
work toward goals for tomorrow.

We appreciate everyone’s support last year. We have much more to do in the coming year. We look
forward to working with together again in 2018.

Together, we can make sure all of our neighbors have enough to eat.

With sincere gratitude,

Bill Gibbs, Executive Director & Mark Seivert, Chairperson
