The Roaring seas of Chelsea Roett
Who would ever imagine an old surfboard found
in the garbage would spark an outstanding career? Such
is the story behind the successes of renowned surfer
Chelsea Roett when she found an old fluorescent pink
surfboard belonging to her father in the trash when she
was 10. From that point, Chelsea knew that she wanted
to be thoroughly involved in the story of the board and
all it entailed; and as it was said, it was done. When
Trident Times Sports asked Chelsea about her
accomplishments in surfing and how far it has taken
her, here's what our Sea Star had to say “Over the years
I have accomplished many titles both regionally and
internationally. I have travelled quite extensively for
surfing and competing for Barbados, and I am one of
Barbados' Olympic hopefuls for surfing in the 2021 Olympics.”
Competitive surfing requires a fit physique; training in the ocean along with
daily cardio and strength training, all of which play a huge part in Chelsea's
preparation.
Sadly, 2020 played against the surfer's competitive season as the world
battled with the novel coronavirus. Barbados would have issued an island
lockdown; therefore, all the beaches were closed. Chelsea, of course, felt it as her
daily ocean training came to a halt. However, this did not stop her from keeping in
shape and keeping her mind well
versed with surfing. During the
lockdown, Chelsea kept up with
physical training whilst re-watching
past videos of her surfing.
Once the lockdown was lifted,
Barbados only allowed beach time for
the island from 6 am to 9 am, and
without hesitation, Ms. Roett was
back out and mastering the seas.
