A. Definition Invitation Letter
Invitation is an invitation is a request, a solicitation, or an attempt to get another
person to join you at a specific event. According to the Oxford Learner's Dictionary
defines Invitation as follows “a spoken or written request to somebody to do something or
to go somewhere”. So, invitation is a request in the form of speech or writing addressed to
someone to do something or go somewhere.
Some examples of events that usually use invitations are birthday parties, weddings,
meetings, and others. And there are two types of invitation letters, namely formal
invitation letters and informal (personal) invitation letters.
• Formal invitations use more standard language and a more organized structure.
Usually, this type of letter is used for official events, such as wedding invitations,
building inauguration, graduation, and so on.
• Informal invitations use language that is less standard and more relaxed. Usually,
this type of invitation is used for casual occasions. Because of its informal nature, this
invitation can be conveyed via short messages such as chat.
B. Structure of Invitation Letter
In general, invitations have several structures that are later combined and can be referred
to as invitations. The following is the structure:
1. The name of the recipient (receiver) who will be invited to attend the event.
2. The contents of the invitation (body of invitation) which generally contain
• Event name
• Day and date.
• The venue.
• The name of the sender who will invite the recipient to attend the event.
