process isn’t, this could indicate that you need a different medi-
um.
Some artists may stray away from this because they’ve built
their followings on doing one particular kind of art, but I assure
you that you will have dedicated fans who will be excited to see
this new era of art from you.
Reach out to other artists
Collaboration is one option, since combining your creative
mindset with someone else’s creative mindset can often reignite
artistic passion in and of itself, but even just a simple brainstorming
session or hangout with another artist can lead to a lot.
Any sort of outside perspective or set of ideas in general can
be at the very least a good starting point for getting yourself back
into your flow.
Stream of consciousness
This can be a great way to translate any frustrations you have
with your art or your life as a whole into art form, or any other
emotions that you might be feeling. Allow yourself to be vulnera-
ble as you’re creating the piece, and follow where it takes you.
It doesn’t matter if the piece is good or not, if it’s something
you want to share or not, or even if it’s anything recognizable. If
it helps you in any way, whether in regards to the way you feel
about art, or in regards to your mental health (an equally import-
ant thing to keep track of), it has done its job.
Recreation
Do you have a favorite piece of art? Or perhaps an older
piece of yours that you feel could be executed better? Try recre-
ating it in your current style (or a new one). This can be a fantastic
opportunity to try out new techniques, or to test how far you can
take the piece while still being faithful to the original.
The bottom line
You will, inevitably, need to take a step back in some form,
and try something new. It’s okay to take breaks, and it’s okay to
want something more out of art. Hopefully this list has given you
some tools to help you, either in your current situation or the fu-
ture. 109
