Liberté (2019) is a photographic meditation set in the outskirts

of New Orleans, Louisiana as a way to step into womanhood

through cellular memory of my diasporic upbringing as Black
ART PIECE
woman in America. The photo is a declaration of indepen-
dence from the ideas of freedom, into ease and through the

embodiment of a gentle tenderness. It was my intention to

recreate a classical painting that may have lightened my

skin in the past as I etched into the present with a photo-

graph, my full presence, as I am.
