                           EFFECTS OF SOIL ORGANIC MATTERS

                           ON SOIL ENZYMES

5.1 Organic Matters as Sources of Energy for Microorganisms
5.2 Differences and Resistence of Organic Matters and Humus

nzymes in the soil system are produced by the living things occupying a part
or parts of the soil system called soil pores. These living things are greatly
affected by some other soil constituents in the soil air, soil water, and soil
solids. Among the soil solids greatly influencing the living things in the soil system
is the soil organic matter. Organic matter in the soil system functions as an energy
source for soil macroorganisms and microorganisms, including those producing
                           some important soil enzymes.
For example, the populations and activities of earthworms are positively
affected by the content of organic matter in soils. A higher content of organic
