Many stand-alone drug plans designate “preferred” pharmacies where you will usually get the
lowest prices (not all drug plans have preferred pharmacies, though). Because CVS owns
SilverScript, CVS is a preferred pharmacy in most SilverScript plans, and enrollees in these plans
can often save money by getting their prescriptions filled at CVS. If you choose to do this, you
can contact the CVS pharmacy you would use and give them the information they need to
transfer your prescription from Rite Aid (you do not need to contact Rite Aid).

To switch from your current AARP drug plan to the SilverScript SmartSaver plan, call (833) 526-
2445 and let the representative known that you want to enroll in the SilverScript SmartSaver
plan, which has a monthly premium of $7.60, for the 2023 plan year. You do not need to call
your AARP plan – when Medicare is notified that you have enrolled in the SilverScript plan, it
will dis-enroll you from your current AARP plan at the end of this year. In a few weeks, you will
receive your new enrollment card from SIlverScript.

If you switch to either of the Advantage plans compared in your evaluation, you will have no Rx
drug costs for levothyroxine next year at Rite Aid. Prior to enrolling, contact your medical
providers’ offices to verify that they will accept the plan you want to enroll in. The information
in Appendix A indicates that both your providers are in the networks of both plans, but
sometimes these directories are not up to date – so it’s good to check.

To enroll in either of these Advantage plans, call their toll-free numbers shown on pages 2-3 of
your evaluation and ask to be enrolled for the 2023 plan year. When Medicare is notified that
you have enrolled in an Advantage plan that includes drug coverage, it will then dis-enroll you
from your current AARP stand-alone drug plan at year’s end. But you will need to contact AARP
to let them know you will be dropping your Medigap policy at the end of this year. Be sure to
get some form of written verification, e.g., e-mail message, that your policy is to be
discontinued at the end of this year.

Dottie, please let me know if you have any questions or would like additional information.

                                                   Sincerely,

                                                   David Armes, CFP®
