Dear Mr. Falten:
Your Medicare evaluation is enclosed. You might start by checking the information on the client
data sheet on page 5 of the evaluation to make sure it is correct. In most cases, the costs shown
in your evaluation are estimates for the full 2021 plan year. The exceptions are prescription
drug costs, which are estimated for the last nine months of this year.
Choosing your supplemental coverage
When you are ready to start using Medicare as your primary health insurance, at that point you
will also need to enroll in your supplemental plans. Since you will not have retiree health
insurance, you will have a choice between the following two types of supplemental coverage:
1) A Medigap policy combined with a stand-alone drug plan. If you decide to apply for
a Medigap policy, these are the steps to take:
a) Decide which Medigap plan you want (there are 10 different plans, shown on
pages 6-7 of the evaluation). Your evaluation compares Medigap Plan F and
Medigap Plan N, both of which are comprehensive plans that offer solid
medical coverage.
b) After deciding which Medigap plan you want, call two or three companies
and then get your policy from a company that has low premiums. You can
see each insurance company’s Medigap premiums in Appendix B, which is
from the New Hampshire Department of Insurance. It’s possible that some of
these premiums are out of date, and so you should call to get current quotes.
The companies’ phone numbers are also shown in Appendix B.
c) You will also need to enroll in a stand-alone drug plan for your Part D
coverage. Your evaluation includes the phone number of the stand-alone
drug plan that has the lowest costs for the Rx drugs that you take.
2) A Medicare Advantage plan. An Advantage plan is a managed-care plan that
combined your medical and prescription drug coverage (Part D). To enroll in either
