Dear Paul:
Your Medicare evaluation is enclosed. Please check the information on the client data sheet on
page 5 to make sure it is correct. Costs shown in your evaluation are estimates for the last eight
months of 2020.
As I recall, you said that you already have your new Medicare card showing that your Part A and
Part B coverage will start on May 1. If you don’t yet have your card, you can contact Social
Security at (800) 772-1213 to enroll and request your card.
Also, you indicated that you want to get a Medigap policy and a Part D stand-alone drug plan.
The evaluation compares two Medigap plans – Plan G and Plan N – and a Medicare Advantage
PPO plan. In Tennessee, Medigap policies for people younger than age 65 are much more
expensive than for individuals 65 and older, as explained later, and so you may want also to
consider enrolling in a Medicare Advantage plan.
The next step is to choose your supplemental coverage and have it in place by May 1. If you
choose a Medicare Advantage plan, for instance, it will include your Part D coverage as part of
its overall benefit package. If you decide to get a Medigap policy, you will also need to enroll in
a Part D stand-alone plan.
After you’ve reviewed the evaluation and decided on the type of coverage that you want, you
can follow these steps to enroll the plan(s) that you’ve chosen:
If you decide to enroll in an Advantage plan, you can call the plan’s toll-free
number shown on pages 2-3 of the evaluation. Make sure that the person you
speak with understands that you want your coverage to begin on May 1. But
before enrolling, verify with your physicians that they are in this plan’s network.
Appendix A2 indicates that your three doctors are in the Advantage plan that’s
compared in your evaluation – the BlueAdvantage Garnet PPO Plan -- but
sometimes the Advantage plan directories are out of date.
If you decide to get a Medigap policy and a Part D stand-alone plan, you should
first decide which Medigap plan you want – Plan G or N or another plan. Then
it’s a good idea to call three or more insurers before deciding which company
