insurers not only face less competitive pressure there. Also, most people never switch plans,
               even in the face of rising premiums.

               You might ask your State Farm agent if you can switch now from Plan F to Plan G, assuming you
               choose to do that. But it’s likely that you will have to wait until the 60-day period following your
               birthday next year before you can switch.

               California’s Birthday Rule says that you can either switch your current Medigap plan to another
               company or you can switch to a less comprehensive plan with any company, including your
               current insurer. But you cannot use the Birthday Rule to upgrade to a more comprehensive,
               e.g., from Plan G to Plan F. If you switch to Plan G, then, you will not be able go back to Plan F
               without being asked questions about your health and having to disclose pre-existing conditions.
