The effects of the Treaty of Versailles led
Germany into terrible times.
Their economy collapsed, leaving many
citizens so poor that they could barely afford
to eat. Millions lost their jobs, crime was on
the rise, and the general mood of the nation
became gloomy and hopeless. Most Germans
began to feel anger toward those they felt
were responsible for their misery.
