fort makes it worth it.”
Through the years, Burks continues to call on pilots in Montana to join the program. In a recent interview with KPAX in Missoula, Burks said his goal is to get every pilot who qualifies in the state to commit to being available for one mission per month, saving value time for patients, especially those in rural communities in eastern Montana.
“I have yet to find a pilot to respond negatively once they know what Angel Flight West does,” says Burks. “It is just a matter of getting the information in front of them.”
BOB’S VALLEY MARKET
Bob’s Valley Market has been a staple to the Helena Valley for nearly 50 years. “As the community has grown so have we,” says owner Steve Bartmess. “My family has always felt it was important to give back to the community, our customers are the reason we are here.”
Nearly as long as Bob’s Valley Market has been in Helena, the Bartmess family has lived in the valley. It was important to the family to support their school, Jim Darcy Elementary, since it was first opened to 15 children in a trailer.
“All of my brothers and sisters attended Jim Darcy and so did my kids,” says Bartmess.
“Jim Darcy will always be the foundation I grew up with and it will always have a special place in my heart.”
Ensuring opportunity for young people continues to be a steward of Bob’s Valley Market. They support the Helena Education Foundation’s Fab-
ulous Firsts program annually, which provides new, award-winning books to each first grader in the district. In 2019, HEF was able to provide 640 books in addition to books given to each library. In addition, they provide sponsorship
to Exploration Works, local 4-H chapters and events for youth sports and high schools. •
