When thinking about the future of broadcast, ABC FOX Montana General Manager Keith Teske considers the behaviors of the fu-
ture viewer.
“In many cases, the reporters are pulling us along,” says Teske. “They know where their cohorts are and where and how they’re con- suming content. I’ve been doing this for 30 years, and frankly I need their help in under- standing how to use their content.”
This includes creating content for the pre- scribed broadcast times as well as live stream- ing, and producing content for the website, podcasts and even Alexa-enabled devices. He says it is a balancing act to ensure that con-

tent is relevant and reaches as many people as possible.
“News goes out in whatever fashion we can utilize,” says Teske. “I think broadcast will change dramatically in the next 10 years. Next gen TV is going to provide options and opportunities.”
ABC FOX Montana staffs a 24/7 newsroom, but Teske predicts that viewers and readers will need more. In a place like Montana — where a lengthy drive can separate reporters from where news is happening — he says community stringers and hyperlocal coverage, particularly of sports, will become increasing- ly important. •
