 WHY I RUN
by Ashlin Slanger
They ask me why I run.
Through desert heat or icy rain.
I say: my mind becomes undone Free of it’s perpetual, pungent pain
What is it that pushes me,
Through my body’s livid languish?
Why do I endure; buzzing like a feeble bee? Because: my thoughts all seem to vanquish.
Am I running away from you?
This I cannot say
I only know that I am running And that you are gone away
