Water that is.
Typically half of the water we use throughout the entire year at our home, goes to irrigating our landscapes. For Castle Rock, that means 1.3 billion gallons of water is being poured onto our yards each summer. It is hard to maintain that lush grass from Kentucky in our high altitude, arid environment. To be good stewards of water and help ensure long-term sustainability, conservation is a measure everyone should undertake. The easiest way to conserve water is to reduce that high-water use turf.

Where it works, replace the lawn with a more visually stimulating area, or perhaps create an outdoor living space. That could look like a bristle cone pine accented by a boulder with columbines and bee balms nestled in. Or perhaps a stone path with veronica creeping through it, leading to a pea graveled setting with Adirondack chairs. Removing just 100 sq. ft. of lawn and replacing it with a ColoradoScape can save more than 1,000 gallons of water per growing season!
A ColoradoScape is comprised of low water- use-plant material that provides a variety of colors, textures, and seasonal interest, that blends in with the native landscape. Castle Rock residents can get inspired by viewing tips and images for ColoradoScape at Residents can also enter to win a $8,000 ColoradoScape front- yard makeover this summer!
