opportunity to compete with them! A major barbeque contest will also take place at the Fair. Highlighting the Fair is the exhibits of all of the 4-H entries to include various animals, sewing, cooking, painting and others that will be displayed. And be sure to visit the marketplace for numerous products and goodies.
All of this is designed to highlight the agricultural history of Douglas County that made it the great and unique place that it is today. When the Commissioners arrive at the Junior
Livestock Sale on Friday evening, we are swamped by poised kids competing for our attention to either bid to buy one of their animals or make what is called an “add-on.” Anyone can

these dedicated
youngsters are in the barns working with their animals all day long, and
I have to tell you that the discipline these kids demonstrate is amazing!! They are serious salesmen/women who come prepared with handouts about their animals. These kids grow up to be disciplined and hard-working members of our community – I’ve met many of them who were involved in 4-H years ago, and now have their own kids in
the program. So please join us for the great tradition that is our Fair – like the September 22,
1922 newspaper story said, “Get acquainted with your neighbors even if that neighbor is all the way across the county from you!” •
