Usually in golf, the lower the score,
the better. However, with the Modi ed Stableford format the highest score wins! A Double Eagle, or 3 strokes under par, is +8. An Eagle, or 2 strokes under par, is +5. A Birdie, 1 stroke under par, is +2. Par = 0. A Bogey, 1 stroke over par, is -1, while a Double Bogey or worse, is -3.
The INTERNATIONAL was also the only tournament, other than the Masters, to structure its own television contract with CBS for all 21 years.
Phil Mickelson and Davis Love III

became The INTERNATIONAL’s rst foreign winner in 1989 by birdieing 5
of the rst 9 holes in the nal round. In 1991, a plucky young Spaniard turned a remarkable save on the 17th hole into a victory. Jose Maria Olazabal’s +10 was the lowest winning total in the history of The INTERNATIONAL.
Over its 21 years the tournament raised more than $10 million dollars for various charities and awarded $58.3 million

In February, 2007, Castle Pines Tournament Company announced
the end of The INTERNATIONAL: “It is with profound regret that we
must announce the end of The INTERNATIONAL after 21 successful years,” said Jack A. Vickers, Founder and President of Castle Pines Golf Club. “We have always been committed to operating The INTERNATIONAL at the highest level as one of golf’s
50
premiere events. To go forward without certainty that those objectives can be achieved has caused us to withdraw from the PGA TOUR, rather than to compromise our high standards or assume nancial risk on behalf of our membership.”
