past 21 years,” said Tim Finchem, PGA TOUR Commissioner. “The TOUR has no greater friend over the past two decades than Jack Vickers.”
And with these words, The INTERNA- TIONAL ended its 21-year run.

My deepest thanks to Keith Schneider, the General Manager at Castle Pines, for his invaluable help in writing this piece. Keith was a Pro working for Jack Nicklaus in 1981 when Jack A. Vickers asked Nicklaus to “borrow” Keith to get Castle Pines o the ground. Forty years later, Keith is still managing the
golf club for “Mr. V” as Keith a ectionately referred to the Founder.
Keith’s favorite memory concerns the 2002 ending, where Richie Beem nished with
44 points, thanks to a
spectacular comeback 10 birdie, 19-point nal round. But
former winner Steve Lowery staged his own comeback, earning 2 points, then
5 points, losing 2 points, then +5 points then +8 points. He had 43 points at the 18th needing a birdie for 2 points to win. Lowery left it on the high side lip for par-and lost!
There’s a legend that a golf cart from The INTERNATIONAL was once found at Bud’s Bar in Sedalia that is now part of the lore of this great golf tourney.
In closing, I would like to mention that since 2018, Chairman and President of Castle Pines Golf Club, George Solich is steady in carrying Jack A Vicker’s vision forward — for the next 40 years and beyond. The Club’s saying stands true, giving Members and guests “The Best Day of Golf in America.” •
