There are at least five key challenges that we are all facing today: persistent poverty, socio-
economic gaps, climate change, territorial dispute and internal conflict. Twenty years ago, we
were shocked by the alarming impact of the Asian financial crisis. We did not realize how far
we have been attached to one another. But today, we have gone even further. When regional
integration is only a matter of time, we could not tolerate another crisis.
