fully aware that this application is part of a much larger scheme (involving WH:LIC site) with a
combined GDV of over }35,000,000 and scope to provide social housing. I attach two press
cuttings which reveal that the altruistic objectives (which I fully support) of helping poorer residents
join the housing ladder are not being met but have instead provided windfall profits for developers.
It is, in my opinion, an example of social engineering gone mad;
5. Assess whether there is an OAN for the development of 54 lower market flats for first time buyers in
Ashurst Wood when there is a glut of similar properties within 2 miles. (These are so excessive that
at least one large development in East Grinstead has been suspended because of lack of market
interest). A local property expert has told me he believes the flats on the WH:EDF site would be
6. Review the schooling and other financial offsets in the light of recent population surveys. The models
used in DM/18/1548 appear to grossly understate the school places required, medical, utilities and
other infrastructure support. This is bias in favour of the developer and CIL benefits at a cost to
residents.
7. Encourage you and the developers to fully disclose the integrated plans for the LIC and EDF sites, so
that an accurate impact assessment can be prepared;
8. Discuss the viability of a single 5m wide entrance onto the A22 for 54 or more dwellings: including
internal traffic flows, parking etc as well as the need for a separate entrance for residents of
Ashbourne Park and encourage an independent junction survey.
9. If time is available and it would assist MSDC, discuss the recent police report on defensible and
space planning (in relation to application DM18/1548) and the social disharmony,
escalations in crime caused by overcrowding, bad planning and forced social engineering. There is
much more than can be done to create safe and happy communities! The trouble is that politicians
and planners are so fixated on metrics, tar gets processes and spin that they overlook the realities of
human behaviour, especially in mixed communities. The proposed over developments of an
dreadful in rure will become blots on the landscape, make a laughing stock for MSDC and
become a magn et for hassle that will destroy Ashurst Wood. They are the antithesis of sustainability.
Yours faithfully
Michael Comer
PS It would also be helpful and avoid misunderstanding if you would ensure that all relevant data
relating to the revised/new application is recorded on the planning portal: fully and correctly
dated (showing the date written and loaded). The starting point i s to disclose all of the pre-
application file on the Planning Portal.
I also suggest that you amend the Planning Portal entry relating to the revised application (or is it
a new application?) by showing the associated cases and especially linking to DM/18 /1548 and
the associated properties including the WH:LIC site.
