FOLDERS

Folding of paper is one of the tasks performed in almost any business operation. There are many variations of folding
machines, from a manual setup unit to a fully automated system.
Many folders include pre-programmed fold patterns – the most common being letter fold (C fold), zig-zag fold (Z fold),
half fold (V fold), gate fold and double parallel fold. High-production large-format folders can have up to 20 pre-set
patterns as well as programmable custom-fold job capabilities. Paper is fed into the unit using a friction wheel or air-
powered suction, then it is folded with either a buckle fold or a knife fold, or a combination of both. Cortech has a folder
for every industry from small offices and the quick print industry to mailrooms and commercial print producers.

PERFORATERS / CREASERS

Perforating is a process that has been used for years; creasing was developed more recently to meet the needs of
the digital print process. Creasing is the procedure by which paper fibers are internally restructured into as many thin
and undamaged layers as possible and formed into a crease. This is to avoid cracking and splitting along fold lines on
printed, varnished and laminated stock. Perforating is the process of puncturing small holes in printed media allowing
for easy separation of two sections of print.
Not every job is both creased and perforated, however, there are machines available that can perform both functions.
Some creasers incorporate folding, allowing for a three-in-one system. Cortech has tabletop creasers, friction-fed
creasers, air-fed creasers, as well as combination units available.

Hole drilling is performed by a paper drill when the volume or size required is
more than what can be handled by a standard paper punch. Often, the products
processed on a paper drill are catalogues, manuals, brochures, loose leaf paper
and tags.
Paper drilling machines range from low-volume hand-operated single-spindle units
to hydraulic-powered ten spindle machines and fully automated integrated paper
drilling systems. Cortech has both single and multi-spindle paper drills available.
Designed to drill through multiple inches of media at a time, drilling equipment can
also be used for chipboard, plastic, cardboard, etc. and is commonly used in trade
binderies, commercial print shops, in-house print shops and copy shops.

NUMBERING / SHEET FEEDERS

Sheet feeding and document numbering are two of the processes found
in many print shops. Sheet feeding is used with production work where
speed and ease of production is important. Stand-alone paper feeders are
generally placed in-line with laminators or UV coaters. They are fed by
either a top-suction or bottom-suction process - bottom-suction feeders
can be reloaded continuously.
Many of the machines used in print finishing, including numbering
machines, have built-in feeders. Designed with either a unique friction or
suction fed system, the numbering machines Cortech carries can feed
pre-padded carbonless sets from the unglued side and create snap sets
at the same time. Numbering machines are available in both pneumatic
and electric options capable of performing repeat and dual numbering.
