TEEN FEATURED PROGRAMS
Youth Sewing Workshop
Mondays, March 7-April 4, 4:30-5:30pm April 9, 1:00 - 3:00 pm
Young men and young women between the ages of 8 and 19 are invited to attend a free sewing workshop at the Pontiac Public Library. Come learn this valuable skill over the course of five classes from skilled instructor Kathy Henderson. The final workshop will be scheduled for Saturday April 9th at 1pm and will give participants the opportunity to showcase their work to friends and family. Participants are asked to bring their own materials which the instructor will go over in greater detail during the first workshop.
Teen Financial Guidance for Careers
Mondays, April 4, 11, 18, & 25 5:30 - 6:30 pm
Colleen Godfrey from the Michigan School and Government Credit Union will teach a series of courses that inform teenagers on what they should know about finances related to their careers as they start to enter the job market. The topics for each week are as follows:
4/4 - Acing the Job Interview
How to prepare, what to wear, and tips to feel more confident responding to the types of questions you may be asked.
4/11 - Income Essentials
Explains the connection between 4 interconnected factors: Career, Education, Skills, & Trends.
4/18 - Let’s Talk Taxes
Introduces basic taxation concepts through the lens of paycheck deductions. Learn about gross pay, net pay, and standard paycheck withholdings.
4/25 - Pay Yourself First
“Paying yourself first” is an effective strategy that can be applied to everything from emergency funds to retirement savings. Learn a simple but powerful behavior to help prioritize savings goals.
