Described as one of the “greatest living explorers” by CBC, Adam Shoalts is known for mapping rivers, tracking endangered species, participating in archeological digs,
and completing a nearly 4,000 km
solo trek across Canada’s Arctic. Beyond the Trees is Shoalts’s nearly four month journey “weaving through ice floes, facing down snarling bears and galloping musk-ox, and paddling under the midnight sun in a land as old as time” and conveys “why we urgently need to save vast wild places while it’s still possible.” Join us to hear Shoalts’s firsthand accounts of his time in the wilderness. Registration required.
Parenting the Love and Logic Way ^
Every Monday in October: Oct. 4, Oct. 11, Oct. 18, Oct. 25
6:30-8:00 PM Via Zoom
This four-session virtual parenting program designed around love and logic is taught by Linda Brooks. Learn how to avoid un-winnable power struggles and arguments, stay calm when kids test your limits, avoid enabling and begin empowering, and help kids learn from mistakes rather than repeating them. Each family
will receive a free workbook and a certificate if you attend all four classes. Sponsored by Brandon Groveland Youth Assistance, Holly Area Youth Assistance and the Brandon Township Public Library. Register at bgya.org.
 Lights, Camera, Book Club *
Nov.18 6:00-6:45 PM
Which is better: the book or the movie? Read the book, watch the movie, then join in on the discussion. Fredrik Backman’s novel A Man Called Ove (and film directed by Hannes Holm) about the angry old man next door is a thoughtful exploration of the profound impact one life has on countless others. Stop by the library and check out the book/audiobook and the movie, or use our online services. The eBook/audiobook can be checked out on Libby and the movie can be streamed on Hoopla. Registration required.
