Tastings & Talk
A conversation about wine, chocolate and heart health with A. Marc Gillinov, MD and Michael Minnillo, General Manager of The French Laundry, hosted by Monica Robins, WKYC.
A. Marc Gillinov is Chair of the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute at Cleveland Clinic. He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Gillinov holds the Judith Dion Pyle Chair in Heart Valve Research. He is also Chair of the NIH-funded Cardiothoracic Surgical Trials Network. In addition, he is Surgical Director of the Center for Atrial Fibrillation at Cleveland Clinic. In response to patients’ questions, Dr. Gillinov worked with Dr. Steven Nissen to write Heart 411: The Only Heart Guide You Will Ever Need. The goal of the book is to help people learn about heart health and live a heart-healthy lifestyle.
Michael Minnillo, General Manager of The French Laundry, a James Beard award-winning restaurant in Yountville, California, is a native of Cleveland, Ohio. He grew up in the restaurant industry, working at his father’s well-received Baricelli Inn. Then with what began as a culinary apprenticeship at The French Laundry in 1998, Mr. Minnillo grew into a chef de partie role before he turned his sights to the dining room, quickly rising to become a captain on the service team. After opening Per Se in New York’s Columbus Circle in 2004, he returned to Napa Valley and The French Laundry in the role of General Manager in 2012. Mr. Minnillo’s legacy in both the kitchen and dining room affords him unique insight into the standards of service for which the establishment is known, and he continues to raise the bar.
