Session 3: Healthy Aging | Q & A with Ardeshir Hashmi, MD

We all know pediatric medicine provides specialty care for our youth, but a lesser known area is geriatric medicine for our older adults. Dr. Hashmi will talk about the care offered at Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Geriatric Medicine, including why and when a person should consider specialized geriatric care.
Ardeshir Hashmi, MD, completed his medical training at Aga Khan University, the premiere medical school in Pakistan, and went on to pursue a two year postdoctoral research fellowship in Hepatology and Immunol- ogy at Yale. He previously trained at Massachusetts General Hospital as a Clinical and Research Fellow in Geriatrics, after which he accepted a position as a Geriatrics faculty member at Harvard Medicine and became Medical Director of MGH Senior Health. In 2017, Dr. Hashmi left that position to join Cleveland Clinic as Director of the Cleveland Clinic Center for Geriatric Medicine. Dr. Hashmi was named as the first ever recipi- ent of the Endowed Chair for Geriatric Innovation at Cleveland Clinic in 2020.
Session 4: Healthy Sleep | Q & A with Nancy Foldvary-Schaefer, DO, MS 12 p.m. – 12:45 p.m. EDT
Sleep is essential to overall health and it’s something that everyone needs, every day. Dr. Foldvary-Schaefer will discuss the effects of sleep on the body and mind, as well as Cleveland Clinic’s multidisciplinary approach to sleep medicine. She will also shed light on the possible connection between sleep and neurodegenerative diseases.
Nancy Foldvary-Schaefer, DO, MS, is Director of the Sleep Disorders Center and Staff in the Epilepsy Center. She is a Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University with a Joint Appointment in the Women’s Health Center at Cleveland Clinic. Certified by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry in Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology and Sleep Medicine and the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology, Dr. Foldvary-Schaefer has treated patients with sleep disorders and epilepsy at Cleveland Clinic since 1995. She has served as a lead investigator on numerous clinical trials and has published on sleep and epilepsy, epilepsy surgery, EEG, women’s issues in epilepsy and sleep disorders.
