The Computer Science Major at
Kettering: Broad and Rigorous
All CS majors take a core set of classes in the art,
science, and theory of computing.
You’ll take courses in operating systems, software
construction, modern programming language
concepts, and computing professionalism to broaden
your skills. CS students may also take concentrations in
the popular areas of Computer Gaming and Systems
and Data Security.
During your first two years, you’ll design and analyze
algorithms, develop a solid knowledge of computer
software, hardware, theory, and information
representation. Then you’ll specialize.
CS majors can get a concentration in System and Data
Security, or in Computer Gaming, by taking technical
electives in courses such as cryptography, computer
forensics, computer and network security, computer
gaming, multimedia design, and artificial intelligence.
Our flexible curriculum also allows you to deepen
your skills in areas that match your interest. Many
CS students choose one of 26 possible minors such
as bioinformatics, applied math, or innovation and
entrepreneurship.
