The Applied Biology Program:
Intense and Practical
Unlike other biology programs, Kettering University’s
Applied Biology program requires students to obtain
a strong science background by taking courses in
math, chemistry, and physics. They take Calculus I
& II, two Biostatistics courses, and an Introductory
Physics course with lab. Students are also required to
take a full year of general chemistry courses/labs, a
year and a half of organic chemistry courses/lab, and
a term of biochemistry with the lab. During the first
two years of the program, the biology core consists
of a full year of freshman biology with labs, ecology,
and a full year of biological techniques laboratories.
Upper division courses include microbiology with lab,
molecular biology with lab, cellular biology with lab,
UncOnsTRAined and genetics. Students are also required to take two
advanced topics in biology lecture/lab courses where
they choose from topics that include plant biology,
advanced microbiology, advanced molecular biology,
biochemistry II, advanced cellular biology, and others.
