AMY MARSHALL talks VERUSCHKA 1971
541: How long have you been designing and what got you inspired to start design and sewing?
A.M. I've always been into fashion since I could remember .. style and deconstructing my
own clothing from a young age are fond memories.
I designed a collection about 15 years ago in Dallas and sold exclusively through a shop called "Sole Kitchen".
I was popular among the club goers ... in the late 90 ‘s . Since then I've had a daughter and focused on her
for the last 11 years ..
Now, I’m back and ready to take my designing to a new light and level ..
541: What is your inspiration for the collection we saw at The Pin Show?
A.M. My inspiration for the pin show ..
"You are in fashion dream land and you leave your home to
go into the wild world .. you don't know what obstacles you
will face or if you will make it back. You grab your "old faithful"
jacket .. to protect you and keep you safe… and since we are in fashion
dreamland you always look super fly while facing the worlds obstacles.”
Everything thing in this collection was made with upholstery fabrics ..
which last a lifetime and can weather a lot of wear and tear .. making it
the best most beloved jacket in the years ahead ..
541: How did you get the name—Veruschka 1971?
A.M. The name Veruschka inspired me for a few reasons.
I was born in 1971 .. to my parents who were bohemian hippies and we had an afghan dog
named Veruschka .. my parents named her after the super model Veruschka .. the name to me, seems Stoic
and Beautiful. Strong and confident. I've always loved the name and it clicked that it makes sense to name
my label Veruschka since it embodies all of these characters .. Veruschka also means truth. Which is the
most important part of life. In my opinion.
541: Where can we find you.. And see more of your designs?
A.M. Followers can find me on Instagram under @Veruschka1971. I am also a hairdresser at Sweet 200 in
oak cliff. I am currently working on opening a small boutique inside Sweet 200 .. planning to open by sum-
mer. I have a lot of things up my sleeve ... and excited to share with others who appreciate art and fashion.
