PREFACE
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused an unprecedented disruption to everyone’s life since it was first identified in December 2019. In response to the outbreak, our government has issued a Movement Control Order (MCO) on 18th March 2020 as a preventive measure to lessen the transmission rate of the virus. However, this enforcement has inevitably impacted many industries in Malaysia and ASHRAE Malaysia Chapter is no exception. Our meetings, seminars, trainings, networking, annual general meeting, etc have to be postponed or even cancelled. Fortunately, some events have been successfully re-scheduled and conducted in virtual mode despite the lockdown order, thanks to the current technological advancement in information and communications.
“The ASHRAE Digital Lighthouse and Industry 4.0” has been chosen as the theme for this E- Book with an intention to emphasize the needs and importance of digital transformation in our daily life as well as our industry. It focuses on reimagining the building industry by not only integrating industry segments, but also technology. The digital transformation will help to gain a competitive advantage amongst our peers, position ourselves as a go-to resource for clients, improve margins, provide greater value, as well as attract and retain a digitally skilled workforce.
This E-Book features SEVEN (7) carefully selected articles in total. The first THREE (3) articles were handpicked from the ASHRAE Journal covering the aspects of digital transformation and Industry 4.0. The fourth article was specially contributed by Dr. Han Phoumin and Ir. Leong Siew Meng pertaining post-Covid-19 measures. Another THREE (3) articles were exclusively selected from the 15th Asia Pacific Conference on the Built Environment. We hope you will find these articles beneficial and informative.
