8/5/26, 11:42 AM Qi Card at Money20/20 Europe 2026: Iraq's Digital Payments Story — Renascence
global partners, investors and technology providers as Iraq accelerates its payments
                     modernisation agenda.

                     Why it matters

For customer-experience and service-design practitioners, Iraq's trajectory is a masterclass
in what behavioural economists call default architecture: when a government routes
salaries and welfare payments through a single digital platform, it effectively makes digital

financial participation the path of least resistance for millions of people who might otherwise
never have chosen it. The customer journey is redesigned not through persuasion but
through structural change — a powerful, if blunt, instrument.

The broader lesson for CX leaders operating in emerging or transitional markets is that the
most transformative service experiences are often not built around consumer desire but
around institutional necessity. Understanding how citizens transition from reluctant users to

habitual adopters — and what friction points remain — is precisely the kind of insight that
Money20/20 Europe audiences, and the global fintech ecosystem, stand to gain from Qi
                     Card's platform story.

                     The Renascence take

Most coverage of events like Money20/20 focuses on the headline sponsors and Silicon

Valley-adjacent narratives. Qi Card's participation is quietly more interesting than that — it
represents a category of digital transformation that Western fintech rarely models: top-
down, government-mandated adoption at national scale, in a low-trust, high-cash
                     environment.

The instinct in CX circles is to celebrate bottom-up, customer-led adoption as
the gold standard. But Iraq's model reminds us that in markets where

institutional trust is fragile and financial literacy is uneven, choice architecture
imposed from above can achieve inclusion that voluntary adoption never

would. The real design challenge — and the one Qi Card's operators should
be pressed on at Money20/20 — is what happens after the default: are users
