First Emirati Woman To Run For The Prestigious UNWTO Position
The UAE’s Sheikha Nasser Al Nowais has been officially nominated for the position of Secretary-
General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for the 2026-2029 term. If
elected, she will become the first woman from the region to hold a high-ranking leadership role within
the UN’s tourism body, marking a significant milestone for both the UAE and the global tourism
industry.
The UAE Government Media Office confirmed her nomination on Friday, March 21, emphasizing the
country’s commitment to empowering Emirati women in leadership positions.
