There were rave reviews for Daniel Fish’s stripped-back, modern-dress staging of the Rodgers and
Hammerstein 1943 musical about rural community when it ran in New York in 2018. Now, this
“reborn” masterpiece comes to London. Young Vic Theatre (youngvic.org), until June 25
Grease
The ultimate high-school musical is back at the theatre where it had its London premiere, in 1973.
Nikolai Foster’s revival has more bite than we’re used to, but retains the opposites-attract romance
and 1950s-style songs of the 1978 film. Dominion Theatre, London W1 (greasemusical.co.uk),
booking to Oct 29

My Fair Lady
As seen on Broadway in 2018, Bartlett Sher’s staging of Lerner and Loewe’s 1956 musical spin on
Pygmalion retains Harry Hadden-Paton as Henry Higgins, but ushers in London-based rising star
Amara Okereke as Eliza Doolittle – the first black actress to play the role in a professional
production. An added boon: Vanessa Redgrave, now 85, plays Mrs Higgins. London Coliseum,
London WC2 (myfairladymusical.co.uk), until Aug 27
