Lastly, but not at all leastly, is Johnny Johnson’s
’30 Ford Tudor. Unlike most rat rod builds, Johnny
started with a running, driving, all original car. It
features a 4-inch chop and has been channeled 3
inches more over the modifi ed TCI chassis. The car
before you features a .030” over 400 Chevy small
block with a Turbo 350 transmission and an 8.8 inch
rear-end from a Ford Explorer. But as of this writing,
that motor is out and Johnny is about to add an
820-horse, 18-degree Gene Fulton stroker, good
for about 20 times the horsepower of the original
engine. Johnny says he’s built about 10 other ’30
Fords for other people but he’s keeping this one.
Looks like a keeper to us, too.
It’s been said that ‘hot roddin’ ain’t easy’. That
may be true, but neither is the art of photography.
Shoots like this take a lot of hard work and creativity
from not only Craig, but all of the artists, models
and assistants who volunteered their time and effort
to put this together. Special thanks to Mark Harper,
the owner of the rock quarry featured in this shoot
for allowing Craig and his group to have the perfect
location for his vision. And thanks to Craig for the
special rat rod love in the form of the ‘double R’ ink
on many of the models!
