                 PISTONS AND PAINT 2015

                 presented by The Chupacabras

ast year's Pistons and Paint was a very surreal
event. It had been raining all week, which is
LNOT good for a show that is held on the grass
of an old fairground. We all had our doubts that it

was going to stop. Come Friday afternoon the skies
cleared up and hopes began to lift. We've been
waiting 364 days for this....even the free Friday night

show at Dan's Silver Leaf was light in attendance.

Saturday started with a chill. Then cars from Arkansas and
Oklahoma started arriving in Denton. Eventually 406 hot rods and
kustoms crept in. Some were sloppy, but most pretty clean. The
TORQUES CC and LUCKYS CC pitched in and helped fi ll the acres
in an orderly fashion. Tons of historic motorcycles and choppers
along with nostalgic dragsters attended. Remarkably the pasture
wasn't fl ooded or even holding water. It was a little moist, but we
all appreciate that on a Saturday afternoon.
The musical acts were great though! The Paychecks and TJ
Mayes rocked the place with the wild kinda honky tonk suicidal
the adult kids like these days. The highpoint was the pride of
outlaw country, Dale Watson and The Lone Stars. Most people
abandoned their rides and beat it towards the stage. Personally,
I was thrilled to death! Rarely do I get to drop my lens and just
enjoy the show-but man this was worth it! Dale is the antithesis
of the terrible music produced these days--he is great!!
Denton is a great college town with a wonderful old
historic courthouse square. There are breweries, taprooms and
many different restaurants to fi ll up at. On Sunday after the
show there was a gathering for free grub at The Oak Street
Drafthouse, with two more bands. Like most of the 'shows' we
attend, this is really a lifestyle event. Wild to mild, classic to
                 psychobilly....if you're a wheel lover you'll be welcome.
So come on down to Texas this November 12th. The
Paladins from San Diego will be banging on steel and strings.
As we all get older and chances slip further away....consider
it. We'd love to see you!
