                  Round Up 2016
                  Lone Star

one Star Round Up by the Kontinentals Car
Club is one of those Texas institutions that is
Lhard to explain. It is a traditional car show that
is anti-rat rod.... however is full of rat rods. The
show is the embodiment of the independent and
rebellious nature of Texans. It truly is a lifestyle
show-with live rockabilly music, artists, and
                  vendors galore.

No coolers allowed? Vintage coolers are a decorated staple
for every ride. No dogs allowed? Pooches are everywhere. There
are tons of rules, yet the primary rule is to not follow the rules.
Thousands of people descend on Austin, not just for the show.
There are garage crawls, secret parties, invite only barbecues,
and private soirees that aren’t advertised. There are cruises on
Congress, club’s get-togethers, and impromptu country road drag
races. There is a slow Sunday cruise to Lake Travis, with a beautiful
view from The Oasis. The minibike races are always a matter of
pride and folly, as seriously funny as it gets!
Club participation is an obvious indicator of the community
drawn to LSRU. Packs of rodders roll in from many different states,
and even Canada and Europe. Last year I got to know the Hard
Knocks Car Club through VP Butch Coronado. The HKCC are
a motley group of blue collar builders and drivers who brought
hot rods, rat rods and crazy trucks to the Expo Center. Originally
4 members from El Paso, now they number over 30 from Texas,
Nevada, and New Mexico. They practice the kustom lifestyle and
the American ideal of liberty by being creative with their rides,
no matter the rules or convention. The club also hosts the Great
American Rockabilly Riot in El Paso. You wanna know about
tough? Drive from Austin to El Paso....that is tough stuff my friend!
So, I would encourage you to put your big girl panties on
and make your way to Austin this April. I promise it will be unlike
anything you’ve ever seen, and might just change your life. Just
                  don’t move to Austin please.
