wo of the most exciting times
while building a Hot Rod are
when you set the body on the
frame, and the fi rst time you fi re
T the motor up. In this issue we will be
covering the former. For the ones who may
have missed the body issue, let me give a
little back story to catch you up to speed.
We chose this VW for several reasons and
we will mention a few. To start with, all the
old bodies are being snatched up left and
right as the title suggest. This is only gonna
get worse with time, and even the truck
cabs will get real thin. With this
in mind, we started thinking of all
the possibilities as far as Rods are
concerned. I remembered loving
T Buckets as a kid, and wondered
why no one ever cut one down,
considering the basic size and
shape are already there.
Armed with this dangerous
thought, I bought a cheap $250.00
VW body, and started surgery right
away! I would have preferred a
regular VW, but this one happened
to be a super Beetle. I knew right
away the ugly windshield had to
go. I cut the top off, and pie cut the
A Pillars to stand them up straight.
They were also cut in half, and a Piece of angle Iron welded in to make up the top section.
The front was cut at the deck line, and fi rewall created from 22 gauge sheet steel.
