end. Out back is a Ford 9-inch rear with
a 4.56 locker and a four-link setup that
will eventually go away and be replaced
by a complete air ride setup. Justin used
the original frame but designed, built, and
installed his own crossmembers.
One of the coolest parts of Justin's
truck is the engine. First, it's not a small-
block Chevy. Yes, they're fi ne engines, and
they're cheap and plentiful, but it's nice for
a change when somebody wants to keep
his Ford...all Ford. The deal was sealed
when a local Ford guy said that if he kept
it all 'blue oval', he'd supply a free block
and help Justin rebuild it. So, starting with
a '79-vintage 460 block, he began his fi rst
engine rebuild. It's mostly stock, except
for a bigger cam. The idea was to keep the
low-compression internals so later he could
add a blower. With only 1900 pounds to
move around that torquey big block works
just fi ne as-is. The original C6 trans backs
up the 460.
Justin gives lots of credit to the
Facebook pages of RRM and Rat Rod
Addiction for ideas and support throughout
the build. Watching Steve Darnell and the
boys on 'Vegas Rat Rods' helped, as well.
It just goes to show that if you want
something bad enough, you'll fi nd a way.
Period.
