Promoting health and wellbeing all year round
As part Sisk’s drive to promote enhanced health and wellbeing in the workplace, a new activities calendar for next year is being launched.
Entitled ‘The Wellness Calendar’, the initiative sets out activities being rolled out each month of the year by the company, with events taking place in both Ireland and the UK.
It has been put together by a small group of colleagues in HR & HSEQS, who have been working hard to source expert providers, to plan the logistics around delivering these initiatives and also consider how we add to this offering the following twelve months.
Working in a fast-paced, demanding industry that is driven by milestones and deliverables linked to speci c dates, coupled with our busy lives outside of work, it is hoped each person will participate in one or two initiatives over the course of the year, to help focus on their work-life balance and general wellbeing.
“Making a small change
to our daily routines can make a big difference towards making a healthier workplace.”
Whether it’s a webinar on diet and nutrition, a physical challenge like 10,000 steps or attending a short workshop on minding your mental health, there are plenty of events staff can get involved in to achieve a healthier lifestyle.
Commenting on the calendar, Senior HR Manager Wesley Duffy said participation in any of the activities presents a great opportunity for individuals to meet colleagues they would not necessary work with on a daily basis.
He added: “Sisk cares about its employees and this is why we are investing in the health of our people.
“Health and wellbeing is something we often take for granted, however studies show that those who make
a conscious effort to look after their physical and mental wellbeing are both happier and best placed to get the most out of their careers.
“Making a small change to our
daily routines can make a big difference towards making a healthier workplace.”
The launch of the calendar follows recommendations from the strategy workshops that took place in autumn 2016, which suggested that we
need to place as much emphasis on employee health as we do on safety.
Sisk’s Pledge to Health and Wellbeing
Sisk is dedicated to launching health and wellbeing initiatives to staff, not just in head of ce, but across all our sites.
To this end, a number of initiatives have been included which are not location speci c; creating opportunities for people to get involved, irrespective of their physical work locations.
Staff can bene t from initiatives including exibility in their core hours of work, along with the time spent travelling for business and time management training.
There is also a wide range of courses on offer which employees can take advantage of to improve their wellbeing, both
inside and outside of work, including sun safety, ergonomic assessments on their workspace and controlling factors like stress and cholesterol.
Speaking about stress management sessions held to date, one attendee said they found them “very useful”, adding the information “did remind me to do some simple things that will make a big difference”.
“It also reminded me to keep things in perspective.”
A participant of the diet and nutrition webinar noted: “I have been trying to eat healthier meals every day and I have noticed that I certainly have more energy as a result.”
If you would like us to provide a particular focus on any aspect of health where you work, don’t hesitate to get in touch with any member of the HR or HSEQS teams to have your say on future wellness initiatives.
