ICE Management
Some of our 2017 Excelerate’ intake at an induction event earlier this year
Since its inception in 2013, the Excelerate graduate programme has afforded the graduates enrolled upon it excellent opportunities to develop their experience and knowledge of their profession, and
to gain a rst-hand understanding of a wide range of the business’s activities in all the geographies in which we operate.
In tandem with progression through the scheme our graduates are also supported on their journey to a professional quali cation with the relevant professional institution. One such Institution is the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). Sisk is an ICE approved training provider allowing us to offer ‘training under agreement’ to our graduates and support others from a wide range of backgrounds seeking membership of this respected institution. To ensure we fully realise the bene ts such a scheme provides our people with, in 2016 we established a management group to coordinate the work of the company’s ve Supervising Civil Engineers (SCEs).
As part of the scheme, graduates are required to gain suitable experience developing solutions to engineering problems, the most effective way for them to do this is through a placement with organisations providing design services in the civil engineering sector. In 2017 we have successfully arranged two such placements with Hewson Consulting Engineers and MGF Technical Services where James Ketteringham and Jim Batty respectively are having a great time seeing just what goes into providing the solutions we implement at project level and producing their own solutions!
At the moment we have a total of 30 graduates following a route to ICE membership and some, such as Jim, have chosen to do this progressively by taking the rst step and becoming an ICE Engineering Technician - a great achievement for him in the ICE’s Spring professional review session. For graduates wishing to follow this progressive route the company is able to provide the relevant support and mentoring required.
Our customers, especially those in the public sector, are increasingly asking us to demonstrate competence in our bid offerings, so as well as supporting our people’s development, it also makes good business sense to be recognised formally by professional institutions such as the ICE for our people’s competence. It is also noteworthy that the various routes to membership at either Engineering Technician, Incorporated or Chartered Engineer level all require some study, personal effort and dedication, but the broad learning required does a lot more than just obtain a quali cation; it really does provide candidates with a broader skill set and supports their growth and development.
The management group can also offer support and advice to those who may at a later stage in their career decide to seek recognition of their knowledge and experience and who are considering ICE membership.
If you would like any more information on what the Sisk - ICE Management Group do or to nd out how they could support your development and help you get the recognition you deserve please get in touch with Marina Leleko or Wayne Metcalfe.
