say, “Your education will make room for you.” Now, I fully believe in educating yourself, but if education alone was the secret to a fulfilled life, then everyone with a degree would be living out the best version of themselves. Today’s statistics on career fulfillment prove otherwise. Gallup surveys show that over 60% of the working population across all career tracks, educational levels and industries are “not engaged” or are “actively disengaged” from their work. It’s not that we, as a whole, have lost our ability to connect with meaningful work. I believe the answer to this disengagement is the fact that most of us are not living out our purpose. The work we are doing might be meaningful to the right person, but not to us!
When we actively suppress the part of our being that wants to dream and grow, and instead, force ourselves onto paths that we imagine to be less risky or more practical, we are settling for a life we were never meant to live. You can have all the education in the world, but if you’re not actively reaching toward your individual life purpose, something will always feel ‘off.’ It is that unsatisfied gnawing that many of us can’t put our finger on.
The good news here is that your ‘why’ is right where you left it and you can pick it up at any moment. You have an internal compass that can still be accessed. It’s the place where your dreams are still alive.
So, the question then is, “Where is my why and how do I find it?”
