I love the way Earl Nightingale referred to the world as a merciless mirror that reflects our attitude back to us
Whatever attitude we hold up to the world .. determines our experience of the world
The story of the two men walking into a new town sums this up perfectly
The first guy meets a wise old man at the side of the road and says .. what are the people like in this town
And the wise man replies .. well what were they like in your old town ..
The first guy says .. they were a miserable bunch
The wise man replies .. I think you’ll find they’re exactly the same here
10 minutes later the second guy asks the wise old man the same question .. what are the people like in this town .
Again he replies .. well what were they like in your old town
He says .. I was so lucky .. it was a great town full of wonderful people .. I’m really sorry to leave
And the wise man smiles .. well .. you’ll find them exactly the same here
It’s that merciless mirror isn’t it .. for good or for bad .. it’s a mirror of the attitude .. of the character that we hold up
