88 SELF IMAGE MASTERY ACTION GUIDE
 IMPORTANT: Read this before starting any of the relaxation or visualization exercises.
Only do these exercises when it is safe for you to close your eyes and you have a reasonable chance of not being disturbed for 5 or 10 minutes or so. You can do this exercise standing, sitting or lying down. Perhaps start with sitting upright in a regular chair, feet flat on the floor, hands resting gently in your lap. Experiment with different positions and at different times of the day. Before going to sleep at night can work very well for some people and some exercises.
After waking up in the morning but before getting out of bed is also a great time for some people and some exercises.
It is important to keep in mind that any exercises of this nature can lead to an altered state of consciousness. Although this is quite normal and natural, choose a time when it is appropriate for you to take some time to yourself.
If you have any history of depression do not do any of the exercises in this program without first checking with your doctor. If you are unsure if you should do any of the exercises in this program, make sure you check with your doctor first of all, to reassure yourself it is safe to continue.
Although unlikely, if you experience dizziness or nausea or discomfort of any kind while doing any of these exercises stop immediately by opening your eyes, returning to breathing as normal as soon as you can and contacting your doctor before returning to the exercises.
To begin each exercise, close your eyes gently and just breathe normally for 30 or 40 seconds. When you are ready, take a couple of deep breaths in and out and then return to normal breathing.
